Portugal Villa — Kitchen & Bar

The Brief

The kitchen and bar needed to work just as well for Tuesday morning cereal as for Saturday night cocktails. Contemporary and fun, but not at the expense of looking good.

This is a villa kitchen that sees real use. It had to be practical, social, and interesting to look at.

The Approach

Philippe Starck-style ghost chairs at the breakfast bar keep things light and modern, set against a warm walnut counter on a clean white base. Beyond the bar, open shelving, mirrored splashbacks, and an eclectic mix of accessories (a lucky cat, a vintage lantern, coloured glass) give the kitchen its own character.

“The best kitchens are the ones where people end up standing around talking long after dinner is finished.”

The Result

It has become exactly the social space it was meant to be. The ghost chairs look striking but take up almost no visual weight, and the collected, slightly playful styling makes guests feel immediately at home.
